Action Makes

What They're Saying About Action Makes...

Here is a sample of some of the things being written about our self-titled record, released December 10, 2010 on Optical Sounds:

"NNNN ... All that gigging has turned the band into a well-oiled rock and roll machine. Splitting the difference between composition and frenzy, the album bustles with fuzzed-out psych riffs and 60s garage hooks." - NOW Toronto (12/09/10)

"4/5 ... A burly brand of neo-psychedelia that can be neatly filed between 13th Floor Elevators and Brian Jonestown Massacre on a shelf labelled 'Bands that straight-up rock.'" - Eye Weekly (12/08/10)

"At its core, this disc captures the zeitgeist of late ‘60s/early ‘70s post-flower power psych and garage, replete with a snotty, 'Don’t give a shit' aesthetic. No messages of peace and love here, just killer guitar hooks." - Torontoist (Sound Advice, 01/04/11)

"If anyone should be tingling your neck hairs right now, it's Toronto, ON garage/punk/psych rock band Action Makes. With such a commanding presence of screams, strong electric guitars and tons of adrenaline, it's hard to turn away from the album once it gets going." - Exclaim (February 2011)

"4.5/5 ... There's not a dud amongst these tracks, right from blistering opener 'Berlin.' " - CHARTattack (12/15/10)

We've also been featured as the Song of the Day CHARTattack (11/23/10), the Download of the Week at AUX.tv (12/15/10), been interviewed for Eye Weekly, featured by the Montreal Mirror, CHARTattack, and have received great reviews from blogs like i(heart)music, Dork Shelf, Mechanical Forest Sound, and Seattle's Sound on the Sound.

Mechanical Forest Sound has a collection of live recordings from various locations, which you can hear by playing our song I Get Up from this page, and then opening up the playlist for a few others.

NXNE 2011 Update: Lots more press to update you on in the aftermath of our hometown of Toronto's North By Northeast festival...

- Before the festival kicked off we were included on Static Zine's first ever mixtape.
- Clint did a pre-NXNE Q&A with Spill Magazine.
- San Francisco's The Owl Mag called us a "must hear" band of NXNE.
- The Spill's Joe Veroni called ours his favourite set of NXNE.
- Panic Manual thought we were "bad ass."
- Fused Magazine had our set as of their ten highlights of the festival, calling it "Psychedelic Flower Garage Blues Punk from local Rock and Roll soon to be heroes."
- Buying Shots for Bands thought our "pummeling psych rock" was "impossible to not enjoy."
- For The Records said we "stomped through a melodically-infused set of garage rock tunes" and "were as good, maybe even better, than other bands of the genre I've heard."

Keep checking back, as we'll update this post as more words pour in...

Let's Try This Again...

We're on Twitter. We're headed to Austin and will be checking in from the road. We have a new album almost ready. It's probably time we stopped being lazy fucks about this, captioning pictures of Hitler and whatnot, and actually tried to do something with the site here. So... uh... nailed it.

Last nights texts
